Hi Frances and a Merry Christmas !
My gggrandfather John Ansell was stated to be a watchmaker on his marriage certificate. Although the wedding took place in Nonington, I'm fairly certain he lived in Ramsgate where he was later described as a jeweller. He lived in the period 1820-1850. Any sign of him ?

No like Siouxzie wrote it does not give much info at all on most of the entries :(
Just under George Orpwood it gives " ill.Britten". Looking at  the abbreviations (if I have read it correctly) ill = illustrated. Under a small list of books there is one called "Old Clocks and Watches and their Makers" by F.J.Britten 1832. I think if you put the two together that it means that this entry came from that book :-\

I hope this makes sense,

Kind Regards,

Frances :)

Hi Billans,

I now have Vol 2 now of the Watch and Clockmakers of the World. There is an entry for a John Ansell in Ramsgate 1845. That is all the information it gives though, but it does show he was there!

Kind Regards,

Frances :)

Hi Frances and a Happy New Year!

Thanks for the info. I fear that's all there is as he died a few years later.
