Census 1841 & 1851 - William Whittow
« on: Friday 23 December 05 17:41 GMT (UK) »
The death of a Wm Whittow is recorded in the England and Wales Civil BMD records for 1859 Qtr July - Sept with a Pembroke ref.

I am trying to establish whether this William is related to my Great Grandfather who was born around 1841 in Pembrokeshire.  However, his father, according to the marriage cert. was James, a farmer.

Nevertheless any census data re. William Whittow would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Thanks for the gen, Chairlady.  Since my Great Grandfather was a tailor by trade and whose wife was Martha Gullam from St Ishmaels it seems I may be on the right track.  Happy New Year!

To follow Chairlady's 1851 Census information of the location of Hook, I have a record of a George Whittow, gentleman of Hook, Pembrokeshire, who was a trustee along with a John Hitchings of Boulston and John Evans of Treffgarn of an 1831 Will version of David Rees of Dredgmans Hill farm. Although it records friends, I am open to researching possible brother-in-laws of Rees. It is highly possible all four were farmers of reasonable plots.
Rees: innkeeper/farmer/solicitor, Haverfordwest, Wales; Menzies: innkeeper, Glen Lyon, Scotland;
Tomkins: merchants, London;  Lee:  farmers, Watford Village, Northamptonshire; Pocock, teachers, Bristol; Grace: doctors, cricketers, Gloucestershire; Day: lithographers, London; Clark:  teachers, Folkstone.
Banks: farmer/curriers/shoemakers, East Ham, Bermondsey, East End
