Hello....
In need of help!!
looking for hubby's grandad   3301166 Pte. JT Jackson
awarded 3 medals from WW1 also MID all this from Discharge papers that elderly aunt has stored away for safe keeping!! :D
Lovely pics of him in full dress uniform, HLI according to learned friends.(I shall try and post at later date).
have tried WW1 medal cards at NA but no sign of him.
All help gratefully received

Hi Paula and Welcome to RootsChat!

I checked the MIC's and found a couple of T Jacksons in Highland Light Infantry!
but the service number is wrong - any chance you could check it and see if there is another number maybe .......  :) looking at those medals - he must have been a brave man!

i suspect there's an extra digit in that service number

it looks like those medals are taken out and polished, so next time have a look at the rim and it will give his service number and regiment

The medals are recasts! and the number came from the discharge papers, I suspect that he served into the 1920's hence the long version of army number!
the hunt continues.......

and the number came from the discharge papers,

i still think it's wrong, the HLI certainly had territorial force units and that would mean a six figure service number, can you check the discharge papers again and we may be able to trace which battalion

seem to be going around in circles!!!! :-\
he obviously served in WW1 the medals issued tell me that much,
still not sure if it is HLI-help!

too add more fuel to fire mother in law says he was a "black and tan" too. :-X

I will task hubby to nag Aunt about discharge papers, have also checked london gazette to find report of MiD but nothing.... :'( :'(
