Anyone recognise this place name?
« on: Wednesday 28 December 05 16:33 GMT (UK) »

This is from a wedding certificate 1845, it's possibly in Radnorshire.
It's the residence of the bride, her father is said to be a farmer and the wedding took place at St Harmon.
Can anyone help please?

Hi aderyn

You haven't given any outline information but are we looking at persons from Wales? If so I would suspect the place is some where near Cefn Mawr (between Llangollen and Wrexham)
You will need a welsh speaker to translate the middle bit of Cefn y Auch Mawr as I see it.

Best of luck

I believe this place to be in Radnorshire, but I'm not 100% on that, I haven't been able to find it on the old maps website.  A  friend suggested that it may be Cefnuwchmaes, which makes sense "the ridge above the meadow".

If you have the brides name , we might be able to find her on the 1841 census.

kmo,

Her name was Elizabeth Owen, born around 1827/8

Her father was Edward.

Although the place-name in question may have been where she was employed.

Thanks for asking.
