Jackson surname in Dunlavin

Happy New Year
I'm trying to get some info on my great grandparents on my father's maternal side. My father was given to a family in Dublin by his mother at an early stage and registered as being a member of the Church of Ireland. His mother's name was Doris Jackson, but that's all I know, his father is unknown. He was born in 1934 in Dublin and was given his mother's surname. My father has been told that his mother's parents/and or relatives lived in Dunlavin, their names being Martha and Samuel Jackson.

Would anyone be able to either assist me with information or give me any advice or guidance on how I should undertake this search?

Thank you for reading this.

A Happy New Year to you too Saturnine.

I apologise for the delay returning your greetings.
Are you having a peaceful year ??? A belated Happy St David's Day, St Patrick's Day and Easter to you :D Here's a link to a World War II Easter card. http://www.s-t.com/daily/04-04/04-11-04/f01ne737.htm I hope it is not too late. Oh! It wasn't addressed to you. Deliveries of greetings cards and the like can be somewhat erratic and slow at times but, mind you, better late than never I suppose :D It's the thought that counts :D

Dunlavin, where's that now ??? Ah good :D Here's a map of the area http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?city=Dunlavin&country=Ireland&zoom=6 You need to click on the star to find the names of the other places in the area. Now Jackson..here's one in 1823. There was a report in the Connaught Journal on Thursday 8th May of that year. http://www.irelandoldnews.com/Galway/1823/MAY.html  ..don't suppose John is much good to you as he was murdered by his wife and some of her friends..she was a somewhat naughty girl it seems. Less said about that the better as there may be children reading this thread so we will not go into too much detail :D

A post at www.WicklowToday.com might produce some information. I hope you have more luck there than I did. All I got was another email address for my collection :D Other places you might consider are http://www.unison.ie/wicklow_people and http://www.unison.ie/bray_people Going back to the 1800s and coming forwards is a possibility. There are a couple of Co. Wicklow Jacksons at this address.. www.genforum.genealogy.com/ireland/wicklow

All the Best, Chris
