Arranroots, just been flipping through the GFHS Journal, they have non- conformist registers including Wotton-under-Edge, have you looked at these?

I feel another visit coming on    ;)

I have a copy somewhere, but abandonded it cos none of mine were in there.

It doesn't meant that Jonas won't be in there somewhere though!  Hope I haven't been misleading folk!

I have Vol 1 which includes:

Old Town Presbyterian 1858 - 79

Rowland Hill Congregational 1772 - 1880 & 1882 - 1903

I didn't find John/ Jonas THOMAS or ROBERTS in there.

Glad you reminded me!  I am not sure what Vol 2 includes?

Vol. 2 includes parishes in Gloucestershire not included in Vol 1, so no further help for Wotton.

Hi bbang101,

Did you ever find any more information on Jonas Roberts Thomas?

Because I am also searching for him - but so far I can't find anything either.

Rebecca

Hi Rebecca, No not as such. There is a possibility the name SAVAGE is involved and the family changed their name when they moved to London. I havent found out when they changed or why they changed - its all a mystery. If you find out anymore info let me know and I will do the same on here.
Regards Brian

hey bb101,

do you think that you could pm me the info that have and then maybe I might be able to help in someway?

I was almost wondering if this was him -  from IGI

Jonas Roberts
Born: Dec 1810
Wesleyan, Holmfirth, Yorkshire

Parents - John Roberts
Mother - Esther

The location is a bit off, but this is the closest match to finding any type of birth record for him.

Hi,

Hope you can to see this message, as you wrote 16 years ago !! But still it would be lovely to hear back from you, if you do ever get to see this. I would love to hear how you too are related to Jonas.

Jonas Thomas was also my ggggg grandad.
He moved to Hackney and the Thomas's became a large family in the area.

my Nan is Edith Thomas from Islington. William Thomas is my Great Grandad. He owned a butchers shop and also worked at smith field market.

I don't know too much about him other than his line of descendants leading down to me and that he married Louisa from France, like you said.

Take care

Hi family55, and welcome.

According to his profile, Brian (bbang101) hasn't been active here since 2009, but if he's still subscribed to the thread he might get a notification of your post, and I've also sent him a private message. Both these depend on him still having the same email address as is held by RootsChat, so we'll have to wait and see.

Meanwhile, I can't really help you with the Thomases, but I was wondering if you knew anything about the Savage connection that Brian mentioned? My wife has a few unanswered questions relating to Savages in Wotton, so any little clue might be of interest.
