Here's another Featherstone Hodgson for you:

Baptised 17/10/1789 Child's name Fetherstone HODGSON Father William,  Mother Mary,  Place Allers  Parish St. John's Chapel (Weardale)

This might be the one buried at Muggleswick in 1844 (see above)

Wow,

Thank you everybody, you have been busy!!

Emma, thank you so much for my lot in the 1841, unfortunately Jane isn't with her family - Where is she hiding?? She's a real mystery.
Looking at the other FH's I guess either could be my man, the one in Etherley is probably more likely as he's not married, athough I guess the other one could have been a naughty boy!! perhaps thats why my FB was brought up by his grandparents and Jane vanished? ;)  Assuming that Jane was in Tanfield with her family at some point I'm inclinded to hedge my bets with the FH who lived closest to her, Iveston is quite close but I can't find Etherley on my map - any ideas?

Jennifer, thank you for your info too, I can't believe how many Featherstones there are, I thought this one would be easy to trace as it's such a daft name (apologies to anyone called Featherstone who read this!)  I'll have a look at the link you gave, it looks interesting.

Apologies for my reading far to deeply into the illicit relations of my ancestors...!!

Thank you again for all your help
Just got to find Jane now.  There are no marriage records (which I can see) on IGI for a Jane Bainbridge in Durham after 1838...  Oh well, back to the drawing board

Thank you
Love
Legs

I've just looked on the Durham RO website and found the following Jane Bainbridge marriages between 1837 and 1841....

1837, Western Durham - Thomas Paxton or Iley
1838, Western Durham - George Craige (Jane either Bainbridge or Walton)
1839, Western Durham - Joseph Galley
1840, Durham Central - William Purvis

One of those must be my Jane surely?  Unless she died?  No idea how to work out which one though...

I have no idea which district in Durham the Bainbridge family and the FH's lived so I can't narrow it down to a district.

Michael, what can I say.....a huge thank you....I'll be leaving that lot to sort out next week as I have a ton of uni work I should be doing right now!!

Emma,  Thank you for finding the Galley family, I guess the only way of finding out if this is my Jane is to order the marriage certificate.  She is of the right age according to the IGI birth I found for her so that is looking good.

Just got to claim a Featherstone H now!!   :D

Thank you all for your input, I am really grateful  :)

Have a good weekend
Love
Legs

I know this is an old old old post and sorry to resurrect it but it came up in Google when I was searching. I recently started researching my family tree and am Featherstone Bainbridge's 3x great grandson.

It would be great to connect Legs as we are undoubtedly cousins. I am sure you know by now but from my research it seems Jane married William Purvis in 1840, hence why she seems to have disappeared in 1841 :)
