NBI Sarah Ellen Guy/Rouse c.1902
« on: Sunday 08 January 06 02:24 GMT (UK) »
My great grandmother, born Sarah Ellen Rouse in Poplar in c.1856 married Frederick William Guy in Marylebone on Christmas Day 1884.  In 1891 they are in the census with their children under the name of Guy, but in 1901 they are in the census under the name Rouse in Savoy Street, Savoy.  There were a lot of males who died, and apparently they wanted to keep the name going.
I have been looking for Sarah's death, without success.  I do have a certificate for a Sarah Guy who died in Whitechapel, but that is not her.  Frederick had a new wife and a new family (interestingly called Rouse) from 1904, and Sarah is still alive in 1901.  We think she must have died in the meantime.  Her family came from Stoke by Nayland in Suffolk and the churchyard of St Mary's seems to be full of Rouses, but I am not sure if she may be buried there under the name Guy.  Otherwise she is probably buried in London, under either name.  Frederick is buried in Brompton cemetery, but Sarah does not appear to be in the same grave -- mind you he lived until 1953.
Would someone be so kind as to look and see if they can find Sarah's final resting place.
thank you
Diane

Sarah married Frederick William Guy in the Dec qtr of 1884 within the Marylebone R.D

it looks like Sarah died in the Sept qtr of 1915 within the St Giles R.D........SARAH E GUY...aged 59 which is perfect! .........but if that is right by what you have said the marital bliss wasn't.........I think you need the death cert to find out who registered the death?

Now........surprisingly their are a few marriages in the right vicinity of a Frederick William Guy, so he was either a very busy guy (excuse the pun) or their are several around including one that may have married a Clara Ann Russe (Rouse?) in Sept qtr 1906 Pancras.

Dear Bryant, what a gem you are.  I had seen that death for Sarah and thought that must be her, it is great to have some confirmation because i did get so confused that i wondered what was going on.  I am in Oz, and wrote the details to my uncle who is keen too, as he is in england and i thought he might get the cert, but if he has he is not letting the rest of us know.
According to the grandson of the second wife, who lives in Canada, Frederick married a Rachel Spinks, but since the first child was born in 1904, and he used the name Rouse as his surname, it is all a bit confusing.  I suspect he never married her, but then I have no idea how you might investigate divorces at that time, i guess they happened.
We are off to europe on friday for an extended stay, but i have the death cert details in my notebook, will get to england before the end of the year and have lots of questions for a couple of uncles!
thanks so much for your assistance
regards
Diane

I'm following Sarah Ellen Rouse too. She will be my Gt Gt grandmother. My mother was given a card by her grandmother as not for forget Sarahs death 13 July 1915.
I have found census and marriage but on the certificate she was 25 in 1884 making her birth circ 1859. Im too confused with the Rouse name as I also found the same given names with Rouse instead of Guy.

More investigating needed
