Help needed - 1841 census
« on: Monday 09 January 06 15:30 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for Henry Grahame MONTAGU in the 1841 census.
I found him in 1851 in a boarding school in Jersey. Transcribed as 'MONTAGN'

In 1841, Henry would be aged 2 (born 1839)

Here's hoping!

This is a true "needle in haystack" request!   The vast majority of the 1841 census is not transcribed yet so without knowing the area he might be in you have set us an impossible task.  However we do not like to be beaten!Where does it say he was born in 1851?   Have you found a birth certificate?   You may be lucky and find him on FreeBMD or www.ancestry.co.uk   What about his marriage?  The certificate for that will show his father's name.
If you have any other information at all from later census records that will help too.

I am doing this to help a friend who has hit a brick wall.

Henry MONTAGU gave his birthplace in later census' as "Nr Cambridge". It is rumoured he came from a place called 'Bridge' but that is unconfirmed.
His father's name was Charles.
We have been unable to find a record of birth for Henry, as yet. If we could find him in 1841 it might give us some clues about his siblings etc.
We found him in 1851 in a boarding school in Jersey, but in 1841 he would have been 2 and would probably have been with his family.

If he is likely to be in Cambridgeshire in 1841 you might be better putting this on that board so that someone local who might have the census sees it.  Good luck
