Hi Toni,

I have tried putting in William Morgan and W.Morgan which has not returned anything. As there are over 1,000 william morgan's listed it will take you so time ploughing through them in the hope that you come a cross the right one. Many have a second or even third inital so you might be in with a chance.

Is there any chance that you can put the other photograph of William up as there maybe other clues. As for the four stripes it could be length of service stripes but with out seeing where they are positioned and in what manner it is only a guess on my part.

Hi, the search engine is playing up. Eventually got it to work and found 3 william morgans in the royal army ordnance corps. No W Morgans.

Hi again,
the four stripes could be meritous service (good conduct) or, as old rowley suggests, length of service.

However, if they are inverted chevrons at the cuff end of the sleeve, it could signify a drum major.  Was your man a musician?

I was just thinking is there anyway he could be a Regimental Sergeant major. The badge on his left sleeve looks close to the badge of one. The pip could be his regimental badge. However Ive got no explanation for the shoulder strap [Im sure theres a name for it!]. What do you reckon people?

Hi Will,

The "strap" that you refer to is called a "Sam Browne" so named after it's designer Sir Samuel James Browne (1824-1901).

Hi,
I've found the other photo's that I have - this one similar to the first, but with 4 stripes on his sleeve.
