Marriage information at St. Mary's, Bury St. Edmunds
« on: Tuesday 10 January 06 20:33 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for my great-great-grandparents, James Graves and Martha Scates who were married at St. Mary's on January 2, 1826.  They had at least 10 children and lived at Whiting Street, Bury St. Edmunds.  However, I can find no parents for James and Martha.  Does anybody have access to the records of St. Mary's?

Hi Peter

Please see my answer to rhubarb regarding what information is available from parish marriage records prior to 1837.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,118825.0.html

James GRAVES, singleman of the parish of Bury S Edmunds St James, to Martha SCATES, singlewoman of the parish of Bury St Edmunds St Mary, Married at Bury St Edmunds St Mary on 02 Jan 1825

The only other information that you would glean from the parish record would be the names of the witnesses, who may well be family members.  You now also know that James' birth could well be found within the parish of BSE St James and not St Mary.

Rick :)
