Help please for 1881 census
« on: Saturday 14 January 06 16:52 GMT (UK) »
Would it be possible for someone with access to the 1881 images to kindly check for me the age & birth place of a Theresa Grant in Portsea Hampshire. Her husbands name is Edward S Grant & the census ref is RG11 Piece 1158 Folio 88 page 36.

On Family Search census her age is 43 & birth place Bushey Heath. I am desperately trying to find my Grt Grt Grandmother who dissapears totally after 1861 where she is found in Newington London under the name of Theresa Spurgeon (married??) aged 27 born Bushey Heath.

Any help will be gratefully received.

Thanks
Maddie

Hi,

Theresa's place of birth is given as Herts, Bushey Heath.

Her age is 43,

The image is quite clear to read.

Thank you so much for the rapid responce Sue. I was hoping her age was a little nearer 50. Then again, I suppose she could have given the wrong age or the enumerator miss heard her.

I am clutching at straws here. !!!!

Once again, thanks for your help.

It is always a possibiity that the original age  taken at the door was 48 but the enumerator couldn't read his own writing when transferring the information. It does happen. 3 and 8 are easily confused.

Thanks Tricia, you have given me hope. I wish I could find the Grants on the 1871 but with him being in the Army I guess it's possible that they were abroad.

If this is the case it would actually explain some of the mystery surrounding my Theresa Main/Spurgeon or possibly Grant.

Kind regards
