Dear Eddie,
My great grandfather was John Joseph Horne who fought at Isandlhwana, who was your grandfather and who was your Dad? My grandfather was Florian Edmund Horne, brother to Robert, Cecil, Percival, Linda, Benjamin, Bill, Delphine, Phyllis and George. I would be very interested in talking to you.
Kind regards,
Juanita

"My Grandfather was born in Natal  South Africa in 1850. He fought with the British Regiment against the Zulus in the 1879 Isandhlawana War in South Africa.

It appears that he was a volunteer and believe he fought with the 45th Regiment and he survived the war.

My investigations in SA have been fruitless as I have been told by the SA Military Archives tat when the British forces left SA they took all their records with them.

My Grandfathers name was JOHN JOSEPH HORN OR JOHN JOSEPH HORNE.
As his surname was changed during his lifetime by adding an E.

He died in 1929 and there was an article in the local newspaper SA. commemorating his service in this war and he was one of the last survivors."

Please if you can verify any information or proof regarding this matter, please let me know.

Can any one help.

Eddie

My grandfather was Ernest Horne from Moreton in Marsh.  His family ran a grocery business.  I am interested in hearing from anyone connected with this family.

Anne - Frederick Horne was my great uncle and part of the family that owned the grocery business in Moreton in Marsh. I have some details of him and his family (including where he was killed in 1916 and where his grave is). Feel free to make contact if you're still interested.
