Don't know how much information you have already Pat - it may be worth trying the Local Studies Library in Ballymena - North Eastern Education and Library Board/local studies - might be an interesting exercise -  keep you quiet for a couple of hours!! ::)

Should get you an e-mail address for Yvonne Hirst. They have all the old papers for the region on microfiche - they may have info on 5th battalion - lots of local newspapers gave lists of men who had enlisted or were casualties - sometimes with photos and short bios!!

Go here for free downloads of Royal Irish Rifles volumes

Annie you really are the 8th wonder of the world.  Well done.  Hopefully in the future you will have all the units and make a wonderful research site.

Thanks Annie:
Have been to the RUR nuseum site already and have had some help. Not sure if the folks in Ballymena would have much info on the 5th. It was the South Down Militia and it became the 5th when they all volunteered to go to SA.
I will check out the site though.

Thanks again,

Pat

I think I made a mistake - I was looking at the 5th and thinking the 4th  :P
The 4th were the North Down weren't they? I'm no good with North and South - just tell me left and right!!  ::)
