1851 Census - Swansea
« on: Friday 20 January 06 11:55 GMT (UK) »
We have located a member of my wife's family and obtained a copy of a marriage certificate. Unfortunately the names of the happy couple's parents are a bit obsure and hard to read.
I am requesting a look-up for a names or addresses in Swansea to see if we can determine who the parents are.

The wedding date was 15th April 1851 so I am hoping the census is before that date.

From the marriage certificate we have the groom Thomas Davies, blacksmith, aged 26,  living at 3 Back Street, Swansea and the bride Jane Hughes, bootbinder, aged26, living at 12 Mysydd Street, Swansea.

Both fathers christian names are not legible on the copy certificate we have but Thomas's father is shown as a Labouer and Jane's father is shown as a Sailor.

Is is possible to search the 1851 census for addresses  to locate the families.

Many thanks in advance

Many thanks Rhys,

This looks very possible. I will now look back to 1841 to see if there are further connections.

The Jane Hughes looks very good as Jane's mother was living with them in the same house on 1861.
I am in Swansea tomoorow. I will try to do a bit of on ground searching.

I had a look at the local records in Swansea Library and found Thomas and his family.

Thomas was still listed as 'smith' aged 15 and his parents are Morris and Anne Davies. listed as Davis in 1841 census.

Jane and Jane Hughes also found in Mysydd Street. Jane snr's husband not listed so I have to assume he was dead although he may have been at sea.

I have been unable to find Morris and Anne Davies/Davis in 1851.

Is it possible for someone to double check for me ?
In 1841 Morris Davis aged 45
Anne Davis aged 50
Thomas Davis aged 15
Martha Davis aged 12.

Many thanks in advance
