Long shot query,

I'm putting this on the Anglesey board as I see that it also covers Bangor.

In Glan Adda cemetery is the grave of my great uncle Richard Williams, and three members of his family. So far, so good. But the puzzle is that on a stone tablet on the grave is the following :-

In loving memory of EDITH L DAVIES
1905 - 1976
rest in peace
Also her husband
JOHN DAVIES 1909 - 1983

The latter couple don't appear anywhere in my family tree to the best of my knowledge.  So I was wondering if anyone out there has any knowledge of who they might have been.  As they are in the same grave as my great uncle - or at least commemorated there - it appears that they might be previously unknown family members.  Any information most welcome.

You may also want to put it on the Caernarvon board too - Bangor is on the Anglesey board because the nearest hospital for a birth for a person on the East of the Isle of Anglesey would have been Bangor, which was on the mainland in Caernarvonshire.

Thanks for your reply and the suggestion.  I'll put the query on the Caernarfon board too.  Maybe someone will know the answer.  It does puzzle me as to who this couple may have been.  Since John only passed away in 1983 there may be living relatives around the area.

Is the stone fixed to the other memorial, is it the same type of stone, does it have the same style of writing on it, etc.

During the past 5 years I have been transcribing over 3000 stones in the 8 different churchyards of Lewes in East Sussex and have found on several occassions a broken or misplaced stone has been placed on another grave whilst they have mown the grass - then they have forgot to put it back; eventually it looks as though it has been there all the time.

Worth an investigation

I haven't actually seen the stone in question, but I was told by the person who contacted me that it is separate and not connected in any other way.

However, I have discovered that the Edith L Davies mentioned on the stone is the daughter of Richard Williams, my great-uncle.  I checked the St Catherines Index of births for 1905 - the date on the stone - and found a birth for Edith Louisa Williams. Louisa was her mother's first name.  So they are connected to the family; now I'm trying to research them.
