1861 Census - Hackney - Joseph and Elizabeth Pettitt
« on: Saturday 21 January 06 13:58 GMT (UK) »
I have a scan from the 1861 census showing Elizabeth Pettitt at 1, Frederick Place, Hackney.

She is listed at the very top of the page as 'Wife'  so I'm wondering if her husband is at the bottom of the previous page?

The reference is RG9/156 page 24

Could some kind soul check this out for me please?

Hello Sarah and thanks for looking that up.

Joseph Petitt (spelt Pettitt in 1861 it seems) was born in Ipswich about 1807. I have him in Islington in 1851.

There is a possibility his middle name could be Edward but I've still got to check this out.

I'd be grateful if you could have a look for him in 1871 also, along with

Elizabeth (wife), born Islington 1811
Alfred (son), born Islington 1844
William (son), born Islington 1842
Charles (son), born Islington 1848
Henry (son), born Islington 1851

Many many thanks for your help..

That's certainly him Sarah - he was a printer, so thanks.

I wonder why he ended up in the workhouse when his family stayed at home. I will have to look the records up next time I visit the LMA.

Cheers,

Ray
