Margaret Mackintosh Manson: d. May 1866 Lethen
« on: Monday 30 January 06 19:16 GMT (UK) »
Death Certificate: On 3rd May, 1866 at Burnside of Lethen, Auldearn, Margaret Manson (married to Robert Manson, Baker, Leith) died aged 30; daughter of James Mackintosh (saw miller) and Ann Mackintosh m/s Lawson.
Informant:  James Mackintosh, father, present

Margaret, my great great grandmother, left behind two sons, John (b1859, Glasgow), and James (b. 1862).  Earlier, she may have been employed as a domestic at Lethen House (her father James was a sawmiller/carpenter/caretaker at Lethen House from about 1841 until near his death in 1903.

Any ideas on where I should look for her burial?  Her father's? Her mother's (1871)? We have tried Auldearn and Ardclach with no success.

Hi Brian,

I 'googled' Lethen House and by sheer luck spotted your post.  James Mackintosh and Ann Lawson are my G,G,G,G Grandparents.  I'm descended through their daughter Georgina who died fairly young at 22.

I haven't been researching this side of the family very long so would appreciate it if you would like to share information.

Afraid I can't help you with Margaret's death.

Best wishes

Hi Brian

I don't know the area that well but this may help

http://www.ancestralscotland.com/counties/nairnshire.html?section=burials

Also it's worth checking with the local council

http://www.highland.gov.uk/leisure/archives/familyhistory/

But be warned they usually charge for finding burial lairs!

Iain,
I have a fair amount of material, but am missing some information.  My address is:
e-mail address removed - please use the personal message system to exchange e-mail addresses.  Thank you!

I have all census returns (1841-1901), including death certs. for James and Ann.  As stated, I am descended from Margaret (my gg grandmother) who died young in 1866.  Her son James MacIntosh Manson (b. 1862) is my g grandfather.  That whole family emigrated to Western Canada in 1912-13.

And, yes, Georgina is one of my 'mysteries', along with most of the other children.
