Is this the right place to post point of interest?

While researching the links between the Skirving and Knox family, I saw a line going back to John Skirving (Black John) who fought at the battle of Flodden, he is famed for rescuing the banner of Lord Marischal.

My father, a Knox from the line which moved into Durham, is 91 and I started to say I thought we were related to John Skirving, and he said his grandfather told him about an ancestor who saved a flag after a battle by wrapping it around his body, then hiding it in a church for years. The bit about the battle and wrapping the banner around himself is well recorded, so this makes me think the line goes back to Black John.
