Births and Deaths at sea at Kew
« on: Tuesday 31 January 06 12:45 GMT (UK) »
If anyone is going to the national archives at Kew, I wonder if they could be very kind and look up a birth at sea in 1881 for Katherine Margaret Probert, daughter of William Probert, and the death of her mother (name unknown) in childbirth.  They were on a boat going to India, but I don't know the name of the boat either.  The file in the archives is BT 158:  Register of Births, Deaths and Marriages of passengers at sea 1854-1890, it is in microform only.  I am assuming that I can't get a copy from the archives, perhaps someone could tell me if/how
thanks

Hello, Diane,

Why not take a chance & ask Kew yourself for a copy of the entry for the birth of Katherine Margaret Probert & the death of her mother, as you can provide the File no. etc.  I do believe they do this but at what cost, I cannot say.  I think it is worth the cost of a letter & an SAE or IRC.

The Public Record Office,
Ruskin avenue,
Kew,
Richmond,
TW9 4DU

Good Luck,
