Hi Shari

Visited St Helens old church today and photographed your 'White' ancestors headstone.

Hope you find the picture suitable for your ancestral files.

Was unhappy to see a lot of vandalism has occured over the weekend and the old Church has been entered.

Hi Chris,
Thank you so much for the photo of the White's tomb stone, it is great and I can still make out some of the etchings on it. I have put it into my family tree album.
I would be grateful for any info on the family of 4 of their children Joseph, James, Robert & Thomas, wifes & children.
Also is there any history to the Old St Helen Church? I have a photo of the Old KIngs Head Inn but am unsure to wether it is the right inn.
Thank you for all your help.
                 Shari.

Hi again

I am attempting to put together some data on the history of St Helens Church - so will contact you in due course with that; in the meantime I will try and find more on their children

Little Nell

Can you furnish me with any information from the pre 1837 marriages for the White Children listed below by Shari, i.e - Joseph, James, Robert & Thomas.

Then I can attempt to follow them into the census records

Anticipating a positive reply and saying thankyou in advance

Hi Chris,

Sure, this is what I have found:

Joseph - only possible around the Hastings area and assuming a marriage age 20 - 30.

Hastings St. Clement, East Sussex,  14 Apr 1814
Joseph WHITE & Sarah HOSE

No other details.

James - similar criteria

Hastings All Saints, East Sussex,  26 Jul 1816:
James WHITE & Sarah DUNGATE, (St/Mary inCastle)

Robert - similar criteria

Hastings All Saints, East Sussex,  27 Aug 1820:
Robert WHITE & Elizabeth BAKER

George:

Ore, East Sussex,  19 Jun 1821:
George WHITE & Frances IGGULDEN
(This is really a bit unlikely but included because it is in the correct area)

Thomas:

Hastings St. Clement, East Sussex,  30 Nov 1834:
Thomas WHITE & Naomi Jane PADGHAM

Fairlight, East Sussex,  20 Apr 1835:
Thomas WHITE, bach &  Ann GLADISH, sp botp (B)

Hastings All Saints, East Sussex,  25 Oct 1835
Thomas WHITE & Jane JOHNSON

Fairlight, East Sussex,  22 Apr 1839:
Thomas WHIGHT, bach coachmaker St.Mary Hastings & Ann BREEDS, sp otsp (B)
(wrong spelling, but the profession may be of assistance in case someone made a mistake)

There do not seem to be any others in the Hastings area.  There are a number in West Sussex and as far as Newhaven and Brighton in East Sussex, but they do not indicate if the groom was from outside the parish.  If you would like any other possibles, let me know, and I'll come back to it later.  I need to cook himself dinner!

Little Nell & Shari

Firstly, Little Nell - thank you for all that information, appreciate that

Shari - can you positively identify ancestors from the information that Little Nell has provided, if so, I will try to follow them through the Baptisms in Hasting (some 430 entries)

What worries me is the lack of White baptisms at Ore which is where I would have expected to find them.
Most seem to be in All Saints and St Clements - the old town of Hastings.

Are we sure we will be following the correct ones?

Hi Chris & Nell,
                  Firstly, thank you so much for all the help you are giving me, all I have on James White is that he was born in 1796 I have no birth place for him his siblings as below;
Sarah born January 9, 1788 married Richard Selden in 1809 still have to find children for them.
William born 1790 married Rebecca Mills. children yet to be found
Thomas born 1792 died 1813
Stephen born 1794 married Margaret (Peggy Vass in 1821.
Joseph born March 7, 1795 no other info.
James born 1796 no other info
Robert born March 28, 1799 married Elizabeth Baker 1820 had a son James born February  1824 he married Elizabeth ?
Anne born April 5, 1801 married John Boyce  1817 children yet to be found
George born June 29 1804 married Frances Iggulden 1821
Barbara born July 17, 1807 married Charles baker 1826 yet to find children

I do have a James White born  Feb 20, 1824 he married Elizabeth ? and as far as I know they had a son Harry born 1873.
I am told a lot of the family left  Ore-hastings to live elsewhere not real certain of the areas.
Can you please explain the abbreviations (botp B and otsp B)
Thank you both
Shari
