Hi there,

Would I be right in assuming this is not a Presbyterian family? I am helping research a Co. Antrim Taggart family from Donegore. We are stuck with Andrew Taggart 1833. There may be no connection with your family. We are looking at all possibilities though. One of their family was named Vincent and at the moment we have no obvious explanation for that name appearing in their family. The Donegore family were Presbyterians.

All the Best, Christopher

Some time ago I was in contact with a lady who answered a posting for Taggart/Scarlett.  She sent the following information.

Emily Jane Scarlett born 1897 Drumboghena. Co. Fermauagh, Ireland
Daughter of James Scarlett and Ellen Graham.  James was born 1848 Drumboghena.
He was the son of William Scarlett and Martha Nixon.

Emily Jane married a Scarlett who  was born Ballycastle Co.Antrim in 1891.
He was the son of John Scarlett and Letitia Reynolds.
John was the son of John Scarlett and Roseann Taggart
Roseann was the daughter of James Taggart and Rose McAfferty.  James and Rose were married in 1831.
James and Rose had  two other children…. James and Jane.  Roseann  Born 1837.  Other children between 1831- 37
James was the son of Robert Taggart and Jane ?

Roseann Taggart married John McLean.  The met and married in New York City.

As for my line I have Taggarts and Scarletts that are connected but I do not know how.  My Taggarts all have reference to where they were born but unfortunately the places they settled in also bear the same name as Ireland.  ie Cavan.  I have not been able to figure out on which side of the ocean they were at the time.  All I have to go on is that James came to Canada in 1818 at age 21.  He may have come directly from Ireland to Canada or from Ireland to United States to Canada.  James and his brother John operated a mill.   Even the family groupings are speculation.  Cousins may have come and settled together.

My Taggarts are

It seems we are not related.  You can never take a chance and pass up a possible link.

Happy Hunting

Hi, still trying to connect stray Taggart family members?
I have John BENSON Sr. b. about 1815 in Ireland, went to Toronto in 1840s, m. Mary KINGSBOROUGH/KINGSBURY. I'm a descendant of their second, of four children: John BENSON Jr. m. Sarah Ann BROCK. The fourth child: Joseph BENSON b. about 1855 m. Mary Jane TAGGART. Joseph and Mary Jane went to Grand Rapids, MI, USA where several children were born. They went next to Roseland, Tangipahoa Parish, LA, USA before 1896. I don't have more details abut the TAGGART line but I will share any details about the related BENSON line from Ireland and to Toronto and NYC. I contributed a work on the BENSON line, compiled by my uncle, to the Canadiana Department, OGS, North York Public Library. Cheers, 'sword' [from Toronto].
