To:
Wallyf,
I have no idea how the name FULLERTON is a middle name of Margaret McBay, to my knowledge there is no Fullerton in the McBay line, so I can only assume that it may be from the HAMPTON line.

Hi Ron,
Your G/F John and my Betsy Easson's husband James were brothers. The family(6 children) were at 5 Blackiemuir Ave in 1881. Interestingly the 2 youngest, Charles and David appear to be twins. Your g/f carried on the tradition. I don't have a lot on James Hampton. In 1911 he was living with his son Alfred at his mother-in-law's Jane Easson at ? West End, Laurencekirk. Alfred (8) was born in Johnshaven. Brings back memories. I lived there for a few years in the 1950s. Betsy appears to be elsewhere on Census night. I don't know if she is Alfred's mother or not. I have no knowledge of other children.

Yours Aye,
Jim.

Hello,

I have just noticed this post… the name James Hampton is of interest to me as my husbands grt, grt, grt, grandfather was James Valentine (b 1774 in Fettercairn we believe) he married Mary Ferrier in St Vigeans and their first child was born there, their second in Johnshaven… their third in Fetteresso in 1810, this boy was named James Hampton Valentine… we believe the name Hampton came from James V snrs sister-in-law who was Agnes Hampton she married Alexander Valentine in Fordoun in1807……
At the time of James Hampton’s birth James V snr was a Sergeant Major in the Kincardineshire Militia….

Was Agnes connected to your Hamptons by any chance?

Hi Jim,

Our Wardens seem to have travelled a bit, the earliest found is John Warden he is an excise officer working in Dundee, he was born 1729 (we know this from his excise salary book records).. he then moves to Dunkeld and then its up to Inverness... his son also called John, and an excise officer moves over to Peterhead then settles in Turriff... this John has a son Robert.......(my hubby Ian's great great grandfather).... he too becomes an excise officer - he is a tide waiter working in Aberdeen then he appears in Stonehaven... he died in 1852...

According to Ians family, there is supposed to be a link to the Alyth Wardens but I can't make the connection, unless I can prove that our John Warden 1729 is the John Warden b 1729 to a John Warden English teacher in Edinburgh...... who did hail from Alyth... Its not easy is it???

Are any of these in your family tree???

Thanks Jim,

As you say another non starter, at least your family appeared to stay 'local', ours crop up all over the place.... not easy...

Many thanks for your participation though
Happy hunting
Patricia.
