need help with an address please
« on: Friday 24 September 04 23:01 BST (UK) »
My James Delasalle lost his first wife, Sophia, in Marylebone in 1858.

I have found a re-marriage in "St Pancras Church, St. Pancras in the county of Middlesex" in 1862.

The residence at time of marriage looks like Union Street.

I am wanting to find him on the 1861 census, but have no idea where to look.  Would Union Street be in St Pancras or Marylebone, or???  In other words, which census(s) should I pursue?

Does anyone have a map site that may help with my search?

My gr grandmother, Harriet, left home in 1864 for Australia and I am also trying to find her and any any siblings.

Any and all suggestions would be gratefully accepted.

The excellent site www.streetmap.co.uk has a search by street option, but gives over 300 entries for "Union Street", but it may be worth a look?

grub,

Don't know if this will work, but I have found Union Street in St. Marylebone on an 1862 map via
http://www.victorianlondon.org
following links which took me to this following:
http://www.motco.com/Map/81006/

Click on this second one and you should see Union Street really close up!!  Its in the Gt Portland Street area of London, not far from the Middlesex Hospital.

No, that second link doesn't work, but it does take you to the right area.  If you click on the "Overview maps" on the left hand side and then a portion of the map where you see "WC" , if you know London at all you make be able to zoom in on the right area from there.  Just explore the maps section of the Victorian London site - it's fascinating!

(by the way, www.streetmap.co.uk also has an option for London Streets to - Union Street comes up with five)
