I have recently been given a photo of my great aunt, Christy Janet Macleod, aka Jessie, who married her cousin Roderick. I am not sure if they married in Scotland or Canada, but the photo has a little girl about one, named Christina, and dated 1910. I was also told that they lived in Prince Rupert in 1933. Can anyone please help, I tried the census (Can) but no luck so far ....

Hi Betty,

Welcome to Rootschat!

Just for clarification, was MacLeod her maiden or married name?  Or maybe she was a MacLeod both before and after marriage if Roderick was her cousin?

Do you know if the picture came from Scotland or Canada?  Is there the stamp of the studio on the back or any other clues?

One place to try is this database http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/020106_e.html which is all the soldiers who fought in the Canadian Forces in WWI.  There are several Roderick MacLeods and McLeods.  Their attestation (enlistment) papers have been digitized and you can view them on this site.  This gives place of birth and next-of-kin, so you might be able to identify if any of these guys are "your" Roderick.

Here is the death of a Roderick MacLeod in Prince Rupert - is the age right for "your" guy?

Name: Roderick William Macleod
Place Prince Rupert
Reg. Number: 1942-09-604435
Date:1942 4 16 (Yr/Mo/Day)
Age: 58
Event: Death
Microfilm #: B13174   (GSU # 1953634)

A digital image of the full record can be purchased from the source site:
http://www.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/textual/governmt/vstats/v_events.htm

And from the same site, two possible marriages for daughter Christina MacLeod
Groom Name: Matthew E Prendergast
Place Prince Rupert
Reg. Number: 1929-09-365228
Bride Name Christina Mcleod
Date: 1929 9 26 (Yr/Mo/Day)
Event: Marriage
Microfilm #: B13758   (GSU # 2074554)

Groom Name: John Macivor
Place Prince Rupert
Reg. Number: 1928-09-347063
Bride Name Christina Macleod
Date: 1928 6 5 (Yr/Mo/Day)
Event: Marriage
Microfilm #: B13756   (GSU # 2074552)

Perhaps someone with more knowledge about BC can provide some more leads...

Martha

Thanks for the welcome ,Martha and the info. from you and all the kind people!!
Jessie did indeed marry her cousin of the same name, (drat it) these people like to make it hard for us to trace them, they all have similar names!!.
The photo came from Canada, I shall ask my cousin if there was anything on the back of it, but I don't think so.
We have an address ,a P.O.Box in Prince Rupert in 1933, but that is all we have...
I am not sure about the age of Roderick, but Jessie was born 1881, and Rod. looks older than her in the photo.
As for the marriage certs. for the daughter, they could be right!! I will have to send for them to know which is the right one!!! Thanks again. :)
