1841 Sussex lookup please
« on: Wednesday 15 February 06 13:47 GMT (UK) »
Could some kind person do a lookup for me please.

Martha Blundell should be age 3.

The IGI has a christening of a Martha Blundell in Sep 1838 Hartfield
Parents down as Robert & Elizabeth Blundell, not sure if this is correct.

In BMD, Birth is down as East Grinstead 1838.

Sorry about the lack of info.

Regards
Adi

Hi Adi

I have just scrolled through the 122 pages of the 1841 census for Harting, but unfortunately did not spot one single Blundell Surname.

As Harting is in the registration district of East Grinstead, I would have expected to see some sign of them even if they only went home to have the children baptized, would have expected to see their parents.

Will have a look in East Grinstead, just in case

Hi Adi

Srry, but I have got to say Sorry again.

There is not one Blundell in East Grinstead and surrounding district in the 1841 census

Very Sorry

Hi again

Just had a look on the 1851 census and found them in Bletchlingley in Surrey

Lake Cottage, Bletchlingley, Surrey

Robert Blundell, 43, born Hartfield, Sussex, Head - Groom / Gardener.
Elizabeth Blundell, 31, born Wandsworth, Surrey, Wife.
George Blundell, 18, born Hartfield, Sussex, Son - Lab at Earth Pit.
Robert Blundell, 16, born Hartfield, Sussex, Son - Groom
Martha Blundell, 14, born Hartfield, Sussex, Daughter
Thomas Blundell,  10, born Blechingley, Surrey, Son.
James Blundell, 8, born Blechingley, Surrey, Son.
Ann Blundell, 6, born Blechingley, Surrey, Daughter.
Elizabeth Blundell, 1, born Blechingley, Surrey, Daughter.

As can be seen from the above, Martha was indeed born in Hartfield in 1837, but by the time of the 1841 census the family were in Blechingley, Surrey where their next child Thomas and all their remaining children were born.

So a posting on the Surrey board for the 1841 might be worth considering
