Shaftesbury Street, Shoreditch
« on: Thursday 16 February 06 11:02 GMT (UK) »
Would someone know what the street that was called Shaftesbury Street, Shoreditch in 1850 is now and if it still exists? It seemed to be in an area where a lot of printers and the like lived.
Thanks
Kath :)

Hi Kath

You can check for yourself on this current map - still there at www.multimap.co.uk

Also, there is a London Street Index and London Maps (historical) on the London Resources Board here http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,295.0.html

Cheers

Hi Ozkat, I saw this question when I googled Shaftesbury St, looking for information about its distance from the St Luke workhouse. My ancestor Jacob Barber (1789-1853) had the leasehold of 3 different properties in Shaftesbury St, several of his sons were copper plate printers, girls tended to be envelope makers. I believe the st was bombed during WW2, hence the blocks of flats.
