I can't find the spouse in this marriage 1945
« on: Friday 17 February 06 21:47 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Is there anybody who can find the spouse in this marriage for me please -
Sidney Hawthorn married ??? Hannah Oct 1945 Kensington 1a 325
I've searched on Ancestry, but the page with the surname Hannah seems to be missing. I've spent ages trying to find it and am starting to go mad!

Thanks so much,
Jacdee

Yes it appears the page is missing - I've found this a lot with the Ancestry indexes, they are incredibly useful but there are some really, really annoying gaps.  Either the page just isn't there as in this case or the marriages index for a certain quarter actually turns out to be the births, or similar.  They do have a fault reporting service.  Sorry if you know this already but apparently it's a test version that is being improved, so reporting the faults is probably worth doing.

Annie E Hannah, Kensington 1a 325, spouse Hawthorn. I realised I had some units left on Family Relatives with 4 days to go before they expire!

Glad to help

Veron -
You Star!!!  ;D

Thank you so much! I'll be able to sleep easier tonight now thats sorted!

Lisa -
Yes, i have noticed a few little blips with Ancestry, but on the whole i've found it really useful, even if i do sometimes have to be a bit inventive with alternative surname spellings to find what i'm looking for!!

Thank you both,
Jacdee

I'd not heard of Family Relatives until you mentioned it (I'm very new to this game).  I presume from what you say it doesn't suffer the inconsistencies I've found in Ancestry?  So for example the numerous missing pages/wrong indexing I've found between 1900 and 1945 on Ancestry would be available on FR?  I'm just wondering if it's worth me joining to fill in a few gaps.
thanks

Hi Lisa

It's a bit of both. Family Relatives is meant to be fully transcribed between 1866 and 1920, but when I have  looked during this period, I often haven't found a record, even though I have then later found it by trawling through the pages the slow way. It's also meant to be indexed between 1984 and 2003, but I haven't tried looking there so I can't vouch for it.

The other periods, it has the scanned pages for, and you can browse by year and quarter - you only need to pay to actually view the page, so I could tell before I used the unit that the page was definitely there.

The minimum charge is £6 for 60 units which are valid for 90 days, but you only use 1 unit to see 1 page if it's between 1921 and 1983, so if you were only needing to check pages which are missing from Ancestry, you could check a lot of pages for your £6.  It would work out more expensive if you are working through a lot of years. Your best bet would be to have a look at the site and decide if you think it's worth it for you want to do.

The link is https://www.familyrelatives.org/treequest/jsp/customer/index.jsp if you want to have a look.

Cheers, hoping this is helpful.
