WW1 wounded
« on: Sunday 19 February 06 16:30 GMT (UK) »
Is there a searchable database anywhere of World War One wounded - specifically those gassed and then invalided out of the army?

Many thanks

Hi Geo!

First of all - which country are you talking about ?
and second of all - do you realise how many men fought in WW1 ?

If you have any names and dates of soldiers you're looking for - post them here and lets see if someone can find them for you!!

geopet, all the local papers carried casualty lists, one list for killed, one for wounded, one for the missing and one for those taken POW,they are mostly based on the casualty list from the lists produced in the times newspaper, the mens details vary, when you check a newspaper for a casualty,he wont appear the day he was killed/wounded,it took days or even weeks for it to appear in the papers,i have a particular page from the newspaper, and it lists 300 killed,400 wounded and 300 missing, and thats just blokes from my hometown of manchester,AND they are all from the lancashire fisiliers or the manchester regt from one days fighting,AND the list is not complete, what area are you looking for, mack
military history,mainly ww1,manchester pals battalions,tyneside irish +tyneside scottish brigades,leeds,liverpool,accrington,birmingham,hull,barnsley,swansea and salford pals.

Try the British Newspaper Library,Collindale Ave,London
e- mail  newspapers[at]bl.uk (substitute @ for at)  with a request and they will get back to you - they hold copies of all UK newspapers
