how long for queen and country ?
« on: Monday 20 February 06 14:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I am trying to find out when a William Harrison [born 1867] no. 2960 KSLI joined and left the army, [ he got the Queens S.A medal ] I cannot find him on the 1891 or 1901 census which might point to joining before 1891 ? I would also like to know are there medal cards for the Boar War ? and would he have been too old for the 1st. w. war ?

IIRC....

the cardwell reforms in 1870's introduced short service (along with many other things), which was 12 years, 6 in active service and 6 in reserve

there are no MICs for the boer war but medal rolls do exist for the Queens and the Kings South Africa Medal

he certainly could have been serving in WW1 at 47
