.....i have found out my great great grand father name is Tobias Purcell born in Kilkenny in 1875 and his children were James Richard Mary but they were all born in dublin when census taken 1911. They had a Patt Verling living with them orginially from Kilkenny too can anyone help me go further back. He was a greyhound trainer like my grandad James.

a possible marriage match for Tobias and Mary from the BMD Index :

 name: Tobias Purcell
 registration district: Dublin North
 event type: Marriage
 quarter and year: Jul-Sep 1902
 volume : 2 / page : 504

 name:   Mary Walsh
 [same references as Tobias]

A marriage cert will give details on the bride and grooms current residences and also the names and occupations of their fathers. For details on ordering certs and notes on the details they contain
see :

Many thanks for the headstone picture.    I am having trouble reading it.   Have you been able to read it?
Could you please let me know what you have been able to work out.
Thanks again,

I am new to this forum.  My g.grandmother was Bridget Purcell (known as Blanche) baptised 1854 St Mary of the Angels Church, Geelong Victoria.  Her parents were Michael Purcell and Anne Sanders (or Saunders) arrived Port Melbourne, Victoria on the ship Australia 20/9/1853.  Michael's age is given as 20 and Anne was 19 on arrival. I believe they were from Kilkenny.  Is this family related to any of the Purcell families mentioned on this page? I am just commencing Irish research.
Thank you
Marilyn  :)

Hi Marilyn,
So excited to get your message.   We have been on holidays.  Yes Bridget/Blanche was my g grandfather's sister.   We had great difficulty finding Ann's arrival in Australia as they didn't come with the rest of the family and Michael's name was with them.   Shipping records can be a bit misleading.
I have also been in touch with another of Bridget's descendants.
I can tell you lots about the family and am interested to know where you fit in.
Can't wait to hear from you.
