How do you get time off to do research?
« on: Saturday 25 February 06 11:37 GMT (UK) »
I was supposed to be going to the park today with the family.  However, as I look after my little un and other half all week - I feel totally justified in the fact that I just want some time off to tinker with my tree.  I have had to pretend that I'm upset about a remark that my hubby made, so I could get out of going to the park - am I mean and crafty?  Sadly, yes I am. ::) - you have to get your priorities right though don't you?  Anyway, I wander round the damp, lonely place twice a week.

What lengths do you go to in order to have the time to research?

I'm lucky in that I work part of the weekend and two evenings a weeek.  My youngest son, age 3, is not in full time school yet so when he's attending Nursery thats when I do my Tree!! (I know I should be doing housework, ironing, etc etc ;)).

Once he's started school, I will be working weekdays.....but then what will I do to find time for research ???  I will have to spend the weekends with my husband and children, won't I ??? ;D  mmmm...we'll see!!!!!! ;)

I work evenings and my 3 year old attends the local preschool during the day.   I use that time to feed this addiction of mine.  ;D

I just don't go to bed early enough every night  ::) since I work full time..... and I don't do any housework at the weekends  ::)

...... so you trip over things and get buried in dust if you come to my house...... but at least my family tree is tidy!  ::)

Internet research is fairly easy - I have access from my work PC as well as at home - people just think it's odd that I never leave my desk at lunchtime  ;D

Visits to archives etc take a bit more planning because I know that once I'm there, that's the day gone.

I do get comments from hubby about spending too long on the pooter but he works shifts so I just pretend to be flicking a duster when he's around to keep the peace!

Having said all that, I still wish I had more time for researching  ::)

I remind hubby that his hobby is alot more expensive and time consuming then mine (oh sure if you add up all the certificates together that would be a different story), the guilt card always works, my mother taught me well  ;)

I stay home with our three little girls, 6, 4 and 14 months and need some sort of "quite" time before I go mad.  Happy mummy = happy family

I do things many ways:

1. Work on the puter when sports are one and hubby is watching a few feet away...makes him think I am there with him

2.  I work what they call a compressed week....an extra hour every day and then get to leave on day 9 of the 10 day schedule 1.5 hrs early and have day 10 off....  My day off is a work day when hubby at work, and 20 yr old at university all day..... gives me almost 12 hours of solitude..
