I have William McBride at Tullichewan Castle in 1841.

Rob, you said that Alexander was at lochranza.

Was there communication/movement between the castles.

I am trying to prove who the parents are of my William McBride - my William's death cert conflicts with the censuses.  I tend to believe the censuses since William would have been alive to give that information.  The censuses lead me to believe that my William is the son of John/Christina.

If there was communication and movement between castles, then I have more weight to add to my William being the son of John/Christina.

I have a strong feeling that William McBride left his family because of the clearances on the Island of Arran.  He was a gardener and would not have had opportunities to find land if he stayed at home.

I pulled this off the internet about Tullichewan:  The Horrocks family purchased the castle in 1817, living there until 1843. The estate was then sold to William Campbell of J & W Campbell, Glasgow merchants and remained in the Campbell family until the twentieth century.[  William McBride left for Glasgow between 1842 and 1847.

Gary, I would love to see anything that you have!  We never know when some tiny snippet of information can break open a wall.  Thanks for offering!

Hi Robert thanks for that, I'm also from Archie's son John Campbells line.
From there we split, I follow down through John's son Archibald (1869), His Daughter Flora Muir Swan  (nee BcBride) (1904) then my grandmother Sarah McBride McMahon (nee Swan) (1927) known as Morag and then my mum Flora McMahon (1951) , oh and me 1970.

Talk about name repetition down the line too many Archies, John's and Flora's :)

They also all seem to be from Greenock after John Campbell until my mothers generation who moved to Corby in England and I now live in Australia.

Here's what I have on Archie:

Archie McBride (b1803- d1876):
Born in Kilbride, Bute on the Isle of arran in  April 1803 (18th suspected) - Baptised 24/4/1803 - [O.P.R. Births 553/00 0010 0110]*

Parents of John McBride & Christina Robinson
Suspected Brother of Janet (1799), William (1801), Anna (1805), Alexander (1807) and Christian Sophi (1809) - as advised on this chain.

Married Margret Campbell (from Edinburgh)
Died at home (22 Sugar House Lane, Greenock, Renfrew, Scotland of Liver disease on 11/9/1876 aged 74  /[Statutory Deaths 564/03 0685]*

He had three children that i'm aware of: Martha (b.~1840), John Campbell (b.~1842) and Archibald (b.~1845)

It would appear that he was in fact described as a Deep sea Pilot - what ever that is :) ?http://www.mariners-l.co.uk/UKPilots.html ?

And I have Census records for Archie & Margaret's  Household in:
1881 (Marg only) - [Census 1881 564/03 002/00 002]*,
1871 (Archie & Marg) - [Census 1871 564/03 029/00 001]*
1861 (Archie, Marg, Martha,John,Archie Jnr & Christina McVean grand-daughter) - [Census 1861 564/03 025/00 001]*
1851 - Cant find any census info that i can confirm to be them as yet
1841 -  Nothing yet but belived to be in Kilbride.

*Ref taken from Scotlands People documents.

I've got some things on John also but i'll email them to you.

I've only been looking for a week so dont have masses of info but i'm happy to share what i've got. Can you pm me and i'll respond.

All the best

Gary

Hello second cousin twice removed, greetings from the homeland.

Archie also had a sister called Margaret 1811,

He & Margaret (Nee Campbell) had eleven children that I know of, a few I have found died either in childbirth or shortly after.
The 1841 census has them living at Whiting Bay with Christina 1834-1890, Martha 1836-1869 & John 1838-1909, I have traced these three until their deaths and what i think is all of their family.
Archie & Margaret moved the family to Greenock circa 1850 where they lived at 2 Vennel from 1851-1857, they then moved to 22 Sugarhouse lane until Archies death in 1876. margaret moved to Nicolson Street where she died in 1884.
1851 census they were living at Campbells Land 18 Heavey Lane ? (Harvey lane)greenock west, with Martha 15, John 10, Archie 7, & William 5
Your line; Archie McBride 1869-1937 married Sarah Nelis who had previously had a child with a James Kennedy called William, she then married Henry Edwin McGill they went on to have three children William, David & Margaret,
Archie & Sarah produced six children; Flora, Archie, Francis, John, Alexander & Edward

If you follow this link you will see photographs of your updated family (more to follow)

Gary,

It's a file that most genealogy programs can open ( I use Family Tree Maker 2011) which will allow you to see everyone I have found, will save you spending on Scotlands People.

Robert,

I would love a copy of that gedcom as well!

I notice that you are doing research in Vancouver.  I am there a few times a year.  Let me know if you ever want something looked up.  Most archives are held in Victoria and I am there at the same times each year.

Robert hi hope you are well. I've just got some new family tree software, any chance that you might be able to send me that file you referred to before? I would be really grateful. Thanks Gary
