hi when i go to the Library, later in the week, i will get some print outs of the newspaper, this is the same Snowdon as on the 1861 census at Garden Street, Derby with father Jeramiah, at the time of the murder he was living at Albion Place with a woman calling herself his wife ,though they were not married,  i have looked in my book Capital Punishment in Derbyshire and he is not listed, so i assume he was transported, the paper i was reading has a very extensive story coverig many witness statments, the doctor that attended, the policemen who attendad, the following newespaper was on another reel that i have not seen yet, to get the sentance, but has this was i found so interesting, i am going to get all the articles i can on this, so will pass on to you what i find.

i have finished transcribing the three court appearances of Snowden Topham's murder trial in 1874/5 and a very interesting story they make, i have them available in pdf format if anybody would like a copy, they are a wonderful snapshot of life in Derby 130+ years ago, any one interested e-mail me and i will send you a copy

Gary

Having read them myself,I would have to agree  ;D they are indeed a wonderful insight into how life was back then.

Not only is Snowdon Topham mentioned but lots of others too-and if anyone is researching the Shaw family there's lots of them here too  ;)

I would suggest you list a few of the names mentioned, Gary- perhaps it might help another Rootschatter out there? Perhaps a new thread should be started too?

And that street map of Derby back then- is absolutely wonderful.

Once again thanks for all your hard work- it must have taken you ages  ;)
