1871 Census BLOW(E) Family
« on: Tuesday 28 February 06 04:07 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I would be most grateful if someone could have a look for a Jane BLOW(E) (b. c. 1810 in Whitehaven Cumberland) in the IOM 1871 census.

Any info at all on other individuals with the surname BLOW(E) would be most helpful. I don't think the surname is very common at all.

Many thanks in advance,
Samuel Adamson

Hallo, Samuel

In 1871 Jane wasn't in the Isle of Man, - she was working as a servant to William H Travis and family of 18, Lower Breck Road, West Derby. Her entry is:
RG10/3847, West Derby, EO 50, folio 155, page 3
Jane Blow, serv, w, 60, nurse, Cumberland - Whitehaven

I could only see one Blow or Blowe on the Isle of Man in 1871:
RG10/5776, Isle of Man, folio 184 page 2
District House of Industry
Jefferson Blowe, pauper inmate, widr, 55, sawyer, Lancashire - Liverpool.

Hope this helps
Philip

You will find 18 burials for BLOW etc in the index on Brian Lawson's site but strangely no wills, there are also 3 or 4 marriages and 2 births (www.lawsons.ca).

Jane doesn't appear in 1851 or 1861 IOM censuses either.
