Frances (Fanny) Maclennan help please
« on: Wednesday 01 March 06 10:48 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

My gt gt grandmothers parents were Alexander Chisholm and Frances Maclennan who (according to the LDS website) married in Dingwall on 17th June 1793.

The same site lists the birth of Fanny Mclennan (in fact 3 times) about 1772 of Tollie, Ross and Cromarty, the last one stating her spouse to be Alexander Chisholm. I note that this record was added by a member of the LDS church.

Similarly a record of the Alexander Chisholm can be found in 1769, again at Tollie, and siting Frances Maclennan as his future spouse, but again entered by a member of the LDS church.

It also appears the those records that would appear to be unsupported by any other source, are always entered in lower case, while those extracted from local records as well as those 'enhanced' by a member of the LDS church are always in upper case.

I'm probably not the first to notice this, and have seen many other examples of multiple entries where every conceivable spelling of the village has been entered, and was wondering if this is a record added to fit what someone thinks was the case, or can it be verified from a different source.

Back to Frances Maclennan, other family sources give her birth date as 1765 (which I cannot verify or otherwise), and Alexander Chisholm's as 21 June 1763 at Urray (LDS) with parents Harald Chisholm and Magrt Mackenzie.

I would like to find out more about Frances Maclennan, but don't know where to start, and fear what I already may be misinformation.

Bob,
Did you get anywhere with this?
If not I might be able to help.

Alastair

Hi Alastair,

No, Alastair, I got no replies to that post of almost a year ago, & had given up. I am in touch with Matthew Chisholm, my fourth cousin, but he knows no more than I do on the Maclennan side.

So, anything you can add would be interesting.

Ah well Bob ...  I may have to disappoint you now!

I was going to suggest you get in touch with Matthew for more help but it seems you are already in contact with him.

All I have is  Wilfred Medlam's Chisholm genealogy charts of which there is a page on Fodderty Chisholms listing Alexander and Fanny and some of their descendants. I'm afraid there's no detail on Fanny's origins.
I thought Matthew might perhaps be able to tell you more!

Good luck
Alastair

Ah there's a pity,

I thought for a moment I might get some more info.

I did make contact with Lorna, under the pseudonym 'maclennan25' in 2005, who was going to check out some records locally, and with her name possibly being Maclennan. This was in August 2005.

She gave loads of info on John Carr, and when I checked with the 1861 census, it all tied up. I replied along those lines, and received an answer in December of 2005, with a promise to look into my information in more detail in the 'New Year', but alas so far nothing.
