Thanks for that sgd. I'm not sure whether this family were related to my Mary. i chased them up on various censuses and think thay they were small-medium farmers :(
So the search continues :-\

in 1899 a James Rogers was farming at Argoed which is just down the road from Farm Hall.

there was another James Rogers and a John Rogers farming together at Kynaston which is about a mile away.

Thanks for the info sgd. I was around there last July. I'd forgotten that part south of Oswestry since the new roads sytem was introduced ;)
James Rogers is a strong possiblily because Mary's youngest son, my grt grandfather, was a James, b. 1845. He was the second James, the first died.
My  Mum used to talk about him quite a bit as he lived with them until he died in 1919. He was blind when she remembered him and at one stage (alledgedly  ;) ) he had set fire to the forge buildings.
Here's a photo of his children (Mary's grandchildren) in the 1880s. I haven't cleaned it up yet and it is very worn.

thanks for sharing that Gadget, the photo is in good condition for its age, just imagine if you told them in 1880 that the whole world could be looking at that picture in 2006!

did you notice that i have ammended my previous post to include John?
John and James were listed as farmers and landowners in 1895.

good luck,

Thanks sgd ;D
I was born just over the border from Shropshire. When Denbighshire was dry, they used to go down to the 'Trap' on a Sunday  :) - First/Last in England. I think it was called the Trap because it was close to the old Chirk Bank colliery - and would catch the miners (and their wages) on their way home. ;)
