Hi "thesellfamily"

As Linmey says there are one or two who know something about old pubs in Ware!

I have on my site many photos of these types of establishments  ;) (well the photographers couldn't take any scene without at least 1 pub being in view)
but can't remember the Red Lion actually getting a mention - but will have another look myself.

Have you tried the Historical Directories - no photos but information!?

Cheers

Keith

He is listed in the 1914 Hertfordshire Directory:

Sell Walter W Charles, Red Lion P.H. 14 New Road

A couple of other with the same name  - just in case - Henry Sell - Chimney Sweep
William Sell - farm bailiff to Major Richard Page Croft J.P.

Which I know is not what you asked for - but still looking for a photo!!  ;D ;D ;D

Keith I had already looked at your site.  Also visited HAL's a number of times last year as well as Ware (did you ever get there?).  From the online directories and those in HAL's I confirmed he was the landlord from 1914 to 1922.  HAL's also has a large image archive, although there is one of New Road c1900 the Red Lion sign is the only part actually in that picture.  Attached is a pic from last year of the "pub" as it looks now, as per earlier note, not much different to the picture I have from 1960.  Regards Ian
