Boylin/Byolin family

I am researching the Boylin/Boyling/Byolin family. The family of Edward Boyling was in Shrewsbury in the 1861 census (Castle Ward Without)

Does anyone know the origin of this surname. I thought it had an Irish derivation, but since I traced it from Manchester to Shrewsbury and see there are a lot of instances of the name in Shropshire I wonder whether it has another, perhaps Shropshire origin.

I would also be interested in finding the family of this Edward Boylin(g) in the 1841 and 1851 censuses.

I've had a closer look at the 1861 census details.
Edward D Boyling was born in 1824 in Myddle. His occupation is given as Chelsea pensioner, at 37!!!!!!! We should be able to get some details from Kew.
He married Ann about 1846. She was born in Shrewsbury.
So he could be at Myddle in 1841, hopefully with his parents!!!. His two older children were born in Shrewsbury in 1847 and 1849, but the next child was born in Burley Yorkshire (I think part of Leeds now) in1856, and the last child back in Shrewsbury in 1858. So he could have been anywhere in 1851, even abroad with the army. There is a 7 year gap in the childrens births at that time.
From the IGI he could be the son of William and Ann Byolin baptised in Myddle 22 June 1823.

I found that byolin is the word for a violin in the Bisayan dialect in the Phillipines!!!!! Perhaps the Boylins were on the fiddle!!!!!

The wedding witness could be a relative. There is quite a concentration of the name in that area.

Can't seem to find them on the 51 I'm afraid. Maybe someone else will have better luck. I don't have access to the 41 Shropshire Census.

Thanks for looking on the 1851 census, sorry you didn't find anything.
I will have to wait til the local society has a trip to the Family Records Center, and search the nearby parishes there. There is a very big concentration of the name in the area around Wem and Ellesmere. I have a baptism from the IGI for an Edward , son of William and Ann in Myddle at about the right time.
Did I mention (old age again) that Edwaed was a chelsea pensioner at 37 years old!!!

Hi, I too am researching the origins of the Boylin name, which I believed to be Irish. It now seems to be written as Byollin in the Ellesmere records as far back as 1678. Did you get a conclusion to the origin of the name?

That is straining the grey cells. I looked at the Boylins from the Shropshire/Welsh Marches area for a friend, and after passing on what I found to the family I probably got rid of my notes!!! some 6 years ago. I can't find them at the moment.

If I remember rightly, I found a source that said the Boylin surname in that area was derived from a Welsh surname but I can't remember which!!!
