Shropshire place names ?
« on: Saturday 04 March 06 19:04 GMT (UK) »
This is my first venture into the Shropshire page - having just found an ancestor who reports himself to be from Shrewsbury on the 1851 census, I've found acouple  IGI references that look like possibilities, but unable to identify the places on modern maps.  I wonder if anyone could tell me the approximate whereabouts of Eagton [possibly Egeton] and/or Dampton Bank [which actually looks like Lampton Bank]
Many thanks, Jacky

Not sure if this is any good but there is a Hampton Bank at Welshampton, near Ellesmere

Thanks  for the pointers - I'll certainly give them a try.  Unfortunately I'm working with a fairly common name - Lewis, but it's all good fun ;)
