Hi Mick & Annie

That is absoultely brilliant, right guy, right birth place, as I don't have National Archives  Credit  and probably not likely to need it  in the future, can I purchase these records and what are they likely to tell me.  And at what cost. Thanks

Hi Jericho,

Great,it looks like we have a result then! ;)

When a man joined the army he completed an attestation form and when he left he had a discharge certificate,it is these documents that are in WO97 for men who were discharged to pension.Have a look here, and scroll down to 'Soldiers Discharged Through Chelsea Hospital',it will give you some idea of the information they contain.

I don't know how much it would cost to get copies from TNA but it won't be a fortune and it'll almost certainly be worth it!

Mick ;)

Jericho! isn't this exciting ??

http://www.rootschat.com/links/06a/

This tells you about costs and stuff - but Margaret just sent for hers - and was able to get them 5 pages at a time for 6 pounds 50 - so she spread them out over time !! I'll send her a PM and see if she can help you!!

Hi Mick

I read all that and it seems really worthwhile getting those documents, just another question as his family and wife where probably in England with him at the same time would they have lived together, as I'm having trouble finding the place of birth for some of his children and my greatgrandmother's death cert states she was born in Devon  so this is how I knew that he was in England during the early 1800's. Thanks
