1841 census - Rebecca Fuller - Bedford
« on: Monday 06 March 06 15:11 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for a Rebecca Fuller, age would be between 1 and 3, varied on later census.

She later married a George Bradshaw and lived in Leamington, Warwickshire.

Rebecca's birth place is consistant with being Bedford and in the 1871 census her mother appears with them in Leamington, also called Rebecca.

I think her father is very likely a  Samuel Fuller, this is from the 1851 census.

Any help is finding her birth or her in the 1841 would be very gratefully received.

Hi Nicky

Well that was a struggle.

Went right through Bedford and not a Fuller in sight, (and having checked 1851 I'd fully expected to find them with Jane as well, who I assumed was Samuel's daughter)

In desperation I had a look at Cardington which is where Samuel gave as his birthplace and there are a number of Fullers! Including

HO107/009-03 folio 10B
The Green Cardington
Samuel Fuller 40 thatcher
Rebecca Fuller 30
Rebecca Fuller 1

Also in same house
Maryann Bester 17 Ind

All born in county

In the previous house which was headed by James Fuller 38 was William Purser 17 ag lab (same William as was head in 1851?)

On the IGI there's a marriage at Bedford St Paul on 27 Jan 1840 between Samuel Fuller and Rebecca Bester.
FreeBMD has a marriage in Sept 1849 at Bedford between William Purser and Jane Bester.

I'll leave it to you to work out who Jane Bester was! Sister or daughter of Rebecca. (In 1861 the Pursers were in Leamington as well! - indexed as Pavser)

Regards

David

Hi

Many thanks for what you have found, I have found this in the 1881

William Purser Head, age 58
Jane Purser wife, age 55
Rebecca Fuller, mother, age 77
Jane Brimley, niece, age 18
Albert Bradshaw, nephew age 5

Now from that you would presume that Jane was Rebeccas daughter and therefore would be half sister to Rebecca the younger. Albert Bradshaw is Rebecca the youngers son.

Oh confusion rules tonight!!!!

Nicky

Hi Nicky

I think Maryann may have been Rebecca's daughter by a previous marriage to Thomas Bester. He married Rebecca Adams in Elstow on 12 Jan 1824. It's otherwise a bit of a coincidence that Maryann's mother was Rebecca Bester (IGI), who just happened to marry Samuel Fuller, and Maryann was living with them in 1841. But who was Jane? Another daughter perhaps- the Besters may have been methodists.

But I can't see a burial for Thomas.

Jane = Maryann???

And I agree with your deduction from 1881!

I think maybe Jane was another daughter, through the census she seems to be consistant with be 55 in 1881, 65 in 1891. Also she married as Jane.

Mind you knowing my lot they usually got their ages wrong and also sometimes changed their names!!!

I wonder if Samuel was married before he married Rebecca?

I think I will try and see what if anything I can find on Maryann post 1841!!

Thanks for all your help.

Nicky

I couldn't see anything on FreeBMD that hit me for Maryann.

There's a christening of William Bester in Willington in 1844 son of Thomas and Rebecca, but I hope this was a very late christening otherwise my theory is shot! A William married in Bedford in 1850, and he looks like another son of Rebecca. The fact that he wasn't christened as a baby lends support to Jane not being Maryann.

Looking at the IGI there was only this one Bester family in this part of Beds

Think this is going to be a real challenge to sort this family out. I know both Rebecca's and Jane ended up in Warwickshire.

Once again thanks for your help.
