Please: 1841/1851 Census - GAMBRILL
« on: Wednesday 08 March 06 04:56 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for  the location of my family in 1841 & 1851:

Here's what I have:

George GAMBRILL  head  b. 1816  Woodnesborough, Kent
Harriet     "  wife  b.  abt1812
Harriet     "  dau   b. 1839  Erith, Kent

The next child Ellen was born in 1842 in Strood, Kent. So for 1841 Census the family could be either in Erith or Strood. I believe they were still in Strood in 1851 (5 or 6 children by then).

George GAMBRILL was at some stage a mariner, so he may or maynot be shown with the household. I'm most interested in any other information about the household that shows up in 1841 and 1851.

Can anyone help me?
Thanks
John

Thanks .... you found the right family .... the confirming fact is Ann born in Poplar, London. I had this information ... but thought it was wrong ! .... seemed stange when everyone else was born around Strood.

Another helpful clue in further searching is the sister with her child at the house on Census day.

Can anyone find a reference for the family in 1841?

Thanks RootsChatters

There is this entry in Woodnesborough in 1841:

Woodnesborough Street

Elleanor TAYLER 75 (widow crossed out) b.Kent
James 35 blacksmith b.Kent
Elleanor 14 b.Kent
/
Harriett GAMBBEL 20 b.Kent (inmate crossed out)
Harriett 1 b.Kent (inmate crossed out)

It could be them given the fact that they were in Woodnesborough and that the husband being a mariner may well have been away at sea but can't be sure :-\
