Thomas Uren And Hanna Smith Uren
« on: Sunday 03 October 04 07:02 BST (UK) »
Greetings,

I am doing research for my step-mother from Australia.

This is what we know.

Thomas UREN (date and place of birth unknown).  Hannah (Smith) Uren born 1809 in Cornwall County (England), died Jan 15, 1892 in Australia.

Thomas and Hannah had a daughter Joanna Uren* (Note 1), who was born in Penzance, Cornwall County, England in 1842.

In 1844, the family went to Australia.

1.   They may have sailed from Penzance, but it doesn't look like a major city (or port) on the map.  The nearest large port city is Plymouth in Devon County.

2.   Arrivial in Australia:   In 1844, if they landed in the Melbourne area, it was then called the Port Phillip District.  (Became the State of Victoria in 1851.)

Any direction is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Gilbert Walz

Hi,

Welcome to RootsChat.  ;D

Finding their details on a ship's list is fairly easy too.  Take a look in our Emmigrants to Aus/NZ board,  and it may be worth you posting in our Cornwall board too:

http://www.rootschat.co.uk/forum/index.php?board=7.0

You will find some good links there.

Happy Hunting,

Kazza.
