Bridgwater - Henry Bridge
« on: Wednesday 08 March 06 12:08 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to locate / identify the parents and siblings of Henry Bridge - born 7 April 1832.

He is my Great Great Grandfather and we know everything about him post 1851 - and even have a few photographs of him.

But prior to 1851 we know nothing. The various Census states his place of birth as Bridgwater but the family was always under the impression he came from Bristol.

Any information that anyone can provide from either the 1841 census or perhaps parish registers would be gratefully received.

Hello Joburg,

Thank you very much for your swift response.

Yes this is the same Henry Bridge and Brixham is in Devon.

On one of Henry's childrens marriage cert his name is recorded as William Henry - as is Henry's own father on his own marriage certificate.

But, my Grandparents always referred to him as Henry - Henry is also shown on his wifes gravestone in Brixham. I am led to believe that Henry died and was buried in Southampton.

If you can provide any assistance in this matter it would be fantastic.

Regards.

Hello Joburg

Many thanks for the information you so kindly found.

Timsbury seems quite some way from Bridgwater which is what Henry stated on his census forms.

In your experience is there another avenue that I can use to to make sure that this is in fact my Henry?

Regards,

Peter.

Hi,
First what was occupation of Henry's father on his marriage cert?
Ask for an 1841 census lookup for the name Bridge in Bridgewater, someone may have a subscription to the 1841 for Somerset online.
Other than that you search the baptism records for Bridgewater, which would be quite a task as I don't think SRO has them indexed.
A few pointers.

Joburg

Just seen this post a number of years after it was first posted. I have a fair amount of info on this Bridge family. However, by now you may also!
