Great Clacton, Essex Baptisms
« on: Sunday 03 October 04 14:23 BST (UK) »
Looking for the baptism of Simon Jacobs circa 1812.  He married and died in South Mimms, Middx in 1832 and 1847 respectively.  On the 1851 census his son William John Jacobs was listed with his uncle John Jacobs' family in Southgate Road, Potters Bar, South Mimms.  John must therefore have been Simon's brother.  John's age in 1851 was 25 and he said he was born in Great Clacton.  This would make him born circa 1826 some 14 years after Simon.  Does anyone have any information about this family?

Do you still need the baptism of Simon Jacobs circa 1812 in Great Clacton?

Hi,

not got the hang of this site yet, I thought I would be notified if someone replied to a message, so I have only just found your reply.  Yes I am still trying to find a baptism for Simon Jacobs if you can help.

Ok I'll have a look soon.
If you left click on your own name, you will then see a menu headed 'modify profile' where there are a number of sub-choices. One of them is 'notification and emails' which gives you 3 options which depend upon you entering your email address under 'membership related settings'. Your email address will be hidden from all if you tick the right box.
I think this is very clever and saves everyone the chore of looking at every mesage to see what is happening

Thanks.  I checked my set up and I seem to have all the right boxes ticked but I didn't get your message though.

Essex Record Office Great Clacton ref: D/P 179/1/4 fiche 1 of 1 searched from 1809 to end No JACOBS baptisms seen.
No baptism of any Simon seen.
Great Clacton ref: D/P 179/1/7 fiche 1 of 2 baptisms
page 12 28 May 1815 Mary Ann
page 23 14 Sept 1817 Susan
page 32 11 July 1819 Hannah Maria
In each of these 3  the parents were Simon and Ann JACOBS of Great Clacton carpenter
Also seen page 31 16 May 1819 Mary Ann daughter of Thomas and Jane JACOBS of Great Clacton labourer.

The only marriage I saw was April 5 1815 John JACOBS married Elizabeth STOCKING (per Essex marriage register transcript)

Thanks very much for the look up.  It would seem likely that the three girls baptised in 1815,1817 & 1819 to Simon and Ann Jacobs could be my Simon's sisters.  Possibly Simon the carpenter was a journeyman and Simon junior was born in a different location, strange about brother John though.
Again thank you very much for your help

Hallo again, I've been looking at parish registers for Beaumont-cum-Moze and found this baptism
1799 May 26 Ephraim son of John and Elizth JACOBS (Essex RO ref: D/P 285/1/3 fiche 1 of 1)
When I went back further in time I saw a succession of JACOBs from early 1700s right through to 1790s (ref D/P 285/1/2 fiche 1 of 2). I had no time to note any details and obviously I cannot say that they are your links but you may find it worthwhile to search.
Beaumont is inland from Clacton
