and for the record
there is a big family of Maylor in Speke ,Liverpool .
Speke estate was started in 1937 - a lot of houses around the City Centre were demolished and many families came to new houses with gardens in Speke .
I know the family  :)

is this William and Marthas marriage ?
Marriage: 10 Apr 1797 St Nicholas, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
William Maylor - (X), Sawyer, Liverpool
Martha Threlfall - (X), Spinster, Liverpool
    Witness: Tho. Wright; William Fairhurst

Laughing Boy - a warm welcome to Rootschat
i have a question for you  - you say William and Martha were born 1778 - this would make them 18 0r 19 at their marriage - NORMALLY if bride and groom were under 21 it would state MINOR on the marriage record - it only gives an X which usually meant they couldn't sign their name - couldn't read or write - SO - is it possible William and Martha were born before 1778 ?? maybe at least 3 years before ???
Martha was 4 months pregnant when they married
Baptism: 9 Oct 1797 St Nicholas, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
William Maylor - Son of William Maylor & Martha (formerly Threlfall), his wife
    Born: 17 Sep 1797
    Abode: Fairhurst street
    Occupation: Sawyer

Are we saying that William Walter Maylor born 1867 is the son Edward Maylor born 1845 and not 1819? I can't see record of his birth. It would seem there are a lot of William/Edwards in multi generations of Maylor so makes it more difficult to trace.

Until the 1960's my branch of the Maylor lived around Everton around where the Water Tower is, Campfield and Breck Road. My Dad moved out of Liverpool to Wirral in late 60's though lots of the family still live in Liverpool.

My original post was to see if I get more info on William Maylor married 1797. I know he's a Sawyer but still don't have proof of where he was born

... leaving William the sawyer to be the William mentioned in reply #7. Being a sugar baker was undoubtedly labouring ... and he was living in Gildarts St.

Maybe.

I can't find anything and makes me think he's was born somewhere else. I've heard stories from my father that four brothers came from Wales as Maylor's are my parental line. So am keen to see if I can find where they came from beyond 240 years in Liverpool.

Hello LaughingBoyNorth, I'm the original poster about the Maddening Maylors. I believe you have just broken down one of my brick walls regarding William & Martha but I'll have to check when I'm slightly more awake :) I may (or may not!) have a lead regarding the Wales part of your mystery. To be honest I've never really got my head around it and relates to Elizabeth Ducker rather than the Maylor name. Elizabeth Ducker's mother was Mary, maiden name Roberts. She married a James Ducker in 1822 in Liverpool. Allegedly her mother was Elizabeth who lived to be over 100 years old and was from Northop,Flintshire and at one time lived in Bagilt ,Flintshire. Maybe that might tie in  with Maylors being Welsh and being from a similar area.. somehow??? There's also another very tenuous suggestion of of Maylors having connections to Denbighshire via Walter Maylor born 1867/68 ish but that one is even less of a guess!!! I have some information that I could send you to see if you can make head nor tail of it and possibly make things clearer. I now have brain freeze and think I need a coffee ;) x
