Hi

I can confirm from my research into this Vincent family that John was indeed the child that died in 1823.  So far I've not managed to find a marriage for Joseph so if you find one let me know.  I do have some interesting information about Jessie who went emigrated after the death of his first wife and ended up in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Hi

As promised some information about Jesse Vincent.

1861 census he was living in St Lukes, Chelsea RG9 34 page 12
Jesse Vincent, head, age 30 bricklayer born in Cuckfield
Sarah Vincent, wife, age 33 born in Cublington, Warks
Naomi Vincent, dau, age 8 born Brighton
Brigham Vincent, son, age 3 born Battersea
Jemima Vincent, dau, age 1 born Battersea

By 1870 he was in Jordan, Salt Lake City, Utah

The records I have for him are the 1870, 1880 and 1900 census, I downloaded them with a freebie from Ancestry I think so don't have reference numbers.  In fact all of this information needs further research.  I have not done anything with it since I downloaded them.

1870
Jesse Vincent, head, 35, farmer born in England
Ellen Vincent, wife, 42 born in England
Brigham Vincent, son, 12 born in Utah, which is wrong as seen above?
Jemima Vincent, dau, 10 again born in Utah, but that is wrong, see above
Nephi Vincent, son, 3 born in Utah.

June 1880 census
South Jordan, Salt Lake City, Utah
Jesse Vincent, 49, Brickmason, born in England
Ellen Vincent, wife, 54 born in England
Nephi Vincent, son, 13, born in Utah

23 June 1890 census
South Jordan, Salt Lake City, Utah
Jesse Vincent, born Dec 1830 age 69, married for 48 years, immigrated in 1863
Ellen Vincent, born Dec 1825, age 74, had 3 children, 1 of whom is living.

Over the page
Nephi Vincent, born Jan 1865, age 35 married for 15 years born in Utah
Sarah Vincent, born May 1867, age 33 had 7 children, 6 of whom are living, born in England
Naomi Vincent, dau, born Feb 1889, age 11 born Utah
Nephi E Vincent, son, born May 1893, age 7 born Utah
James D Vincent, son, born Oct 1894, age 5 born Utah
Jesse Vincent, son born Feb 1895, age 2 born Utah
Rulen Vincent, dau, born May 1900, 1 month born Utah

Other information I have found but naughty me I haven't sourced  ::)

Married Sarah Nicholas at Cuckfield in 1852.  This fits with Sarah who was on 1861 census.

In 1861 they had a daughter Sarah who died 10 March 1862 at 7 Arthur Street, Chelsea.  This needs checking as I am wondering if this is actually the death of his wife who must have died before he emigrated in 1863?

He married Ellen Catherine Holt on 20 May 1865 at Salt Lake City, Utah.

He died 1910 in Salt Lake City.

As I say this all needs checking but should give a starting point for further research into Jesse.

As there was no reply to all my work, I presume either someone disagrees with what I found or nobody found it helpful.  Would you let me know! Thank you  :)

Maybe I can help a little bit with that. The 1880 census shows Jesse's son, Brigham, married and living in Fort Harriman, Salt Lake, Utah. His occupation is hauling ore, but the census shows he was unemployed for seven months of the census year. He is married to Susan, age 19. The Susan is, I believe, Susan Amanda Blake, born in 1860 in Allington, Dorset, England.

I also believe they had seven children (but do not have this sourced):

Sarah Ellen Vincent, 1880-1972
Alfred Brigham Vincent, 1882-1883
Pearl Vincent, 1886-1977
Susan Amanda Vincent, 1887-1959
Jessie John Vincent, 1889-1889
Charles Claude Vincent, 1892-1964
Mary Vincent, 1893-1893

All of them were born in South Jordan, Salt Lake, Utah, except Charles Claude who was born in Malad, Oneida, Idaho.

Thanks for that St vincent77, I now have more information to search with, have tried to find that one before and not succeeded.  Shall have to go back and look again.

If he was unemployed for seven months of the year but hauling ore, one can only presume it must have been well paid, or at least I hope so with 7 young mouths to feed!
