Ships steward 1840's
« on: Tuesday 14 March 06 16:36 GMT (UK) »
If anyone can give me any advice I would be very happy!! :)

I have an Edward Sheldrick who on his sons marriage cert was a ships steward.

He appears to have died prior to 1861. No sign of him in 1851 or 1841(as yet)

I have nothing apart from his marriage cert. If I have toe correct person he was born around 1802 and a ships ticket found for me has some voyages in the mid 1840's although I can't decipher what the entries mean, so any help on that would be great.

It says he served 2 years in the Royal Navy but those records aren't online as they are too early.

The only death I found (1858)wasn't him.

So I really would like to get some knowledge on his time at sea,

Any help would be wonderful.

Many thanks

Diane :)

Hi Diane,

Do you have the name of the ship on which Edward served? If so you may be able to find something in Captains' Logs ...1669-1852 which sometimes include crew lists. National Archives series ADM 51. Another possible source of information, also at the National Archives is series ADM 101 ... Surgeons' Logs 1785-1963. www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/royal-navy-service.asp
