DEEKS, WARD and DOWNS
« on: Tuesday 05 October 04 01:48 BST (UK) »
Hi,   I am researching a GEORGE DEEKS, born at Boxted (from 1851 Census).  He married SUSAN/SUSANNAH WARD, born 1820 at Poslingford, daughter of ROBERT WARD and SARAH DOWNS.

I have not been able to locate an entry for George's birth.  I am also looking for information on Robert Ward and Sarah Downs.

Appreciate any info.   Regards.   Marie in Sydney

Hi Marie....Just found two baptisms 2 George and Susan Deeks

Robert 1 May 1842 Poslingford
Mary Ann 19 May 1844

U didnt mention Georges age. There r a few Georges listed between 1814-1821 but none born Boxted.

61 census 4 Poslingford. No sign of George and Susan. I thought I had her Father but wife listed is Susan not Sarah he is Robert Ward Snr and also there is a Robert Ward Jr right age to be Susans Brother. Let me know if u need any of it. Not going to type it up if u have it or it is not them. Quite a family assortment with Robert Sen He is Farmer and Beer House

Hi Kris,   Actually in the 1851 Census George states he was born circa 1816 at Boxted.  That would make him only around 19 at his marriage.  On the other hand a birth was located at Poslingford in 1798 to GEORGE DEEKS and MARY nee GOLDING.

The second entry could be the correct one but that would mean he was 18 years older than stated in 1851.  Is that plausible??  Who knows!  A bit of a mystery.  The parishes around Boxted have been searched to no avail.

Thanks anyway.

By the way whereabouts are you to answer so promptly, surely not in England or you are up late!

Regards.    Marie

Does he appear anywhere in 61 census for an age and place of birth...Since she was so young at marriage perhaps he was also young which is y I ask if he appears anywhere in 61. As I said he is not in Poslingford? 18 years older than the census lists seems a bit too much to me. R thoses Robert Wards the right ones? Robert Jn is 40 and born Poslingford which fits the baptism I found to Robert and Sarah. I am in Mid North South Oz

Hi Kris,

I haven't as yet checked the 1861 Census for George.  What you say makes sense, it is just that his birth cannot be located.

I agree that the Robert Ward you located would be the correct one.

Thanks for your interest.  Whereabouts in mid north, S.A.?
